Pumpkin Hunting to Pumpkins Glowing

Last week we got a Rexburg magazine in the mail. One of the sections said "Support your local pumpkin patches". Sweet! We have a local pumpkin patch? We had all the plans made. When Jake, Grandma Shauna and Papa Zeke come, we will go to "Lone Pine Nursery" and let Annica pick her own pumpkin. Friday morning was the day picked, and we were to leave in about 1/2 hour. Grandama and I decided we had better call first and make sure there were pumpkins left and such. Well... the lady on the phone said that they don't know who put that in the magazine, but they have never had a pumpkin patch.... HUH?!?!

We were all a litle bumbed. Good news had a turn though. We decided to go to Broulims, the local grocery store, and get a pumpkin there. They had a straw maze set up with pumpkins inside, so that was fun too. Annica picked a HUGE PUMPKIN and Papa found a creative, warty, bumpy one. (now I had a dream about a warty sickness lastnight) Then Grandma Shauna found one with a cow painted on it. Annica wanted all three and thats what she got.

We took the pumpkins home to carve them and all was going well. DJ and Jake got all goopy. They tried to get Annica to as well, but she would just used the spoons. They got the pumpkins and emptied out... then Papa Zeke started feeling funny. Turns out he has another allergy to add to the list. PUMPKINS!! He had to go back to the hotel for the rest of the night, because even being in the house made him feel like he was swelling from the inside. As soon as he left, he was totally fine. Weird!

Jake and DJ finished carving the pumpkins, which turned out AWESOME. DJ did a haunted house and Jake did a crazy warty face complete with the original warts which I hear are really hard to find the days. Then Grandma Shauna and DJ cleaned, lysoled and air out the downstairs in hopes that Papa could re-enter the next morning. Their work paid off.

Those are some pretty awesome pumpkins, Especially that avant gaurd one at the bottom. Thats too bad that dad had to leave, that used to be one of his forte's. Sounds like fun though. You guys will have to come out east one fall, there are some killer pumpkin pathces here. Love you

Hooray for comments! I'm so glad that you set it up so that we can comment now! We LOVE LOVE LOVE (times a billion) this post! We are SO impressed by DJ's haunted house and we love the warty pumpkin. I'm sorry to hear that Papa Zeke had to miss out on the festivities. We think it's pretty cute that little Annica opted to use the spoon instead of getting her hands goopy (that's one of my favorite parts). Will you guys bake the seeds? If you do, soak them in water (once their degoupified) and let Annica put her hands in the water with the seeds. It is a really wonderful sensory experience! We love and miss you guys beyond the telling of it. Thanks so much for posting. It helps us to feel close to you guys even though we're so far away. Happy almost Halloween!!!!!!
